3 tips to make your promotion stand out

Last Saturday morning I was walking leisurely through the streets of Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote - the island where I currently live.

So as I was strolling I passed not 1, not 2 but 3 different opticians on the very same street in the space of 5 minutes! Hard to avoid comparing them. I thought, how would you choose one shop over another? Difficult task, you say? Nah!

How different these 3 establishments were!!!

- One didn´t even have any prices or offers

- Another had an offer on the window: if you buy a pair of glasses we give you this, this, this & that for free provided it´s not Wednesday afternoon and... blah, blah, blah...more small print & exceptions... blah, blah, blah, some more. I got bored even as I was walking. It didn´t even give a price or value of what the promotion was offering!!!!

- And the last one had 3 offers, on a standalone cardboard cut-outs, clearly visible and legible even from outside the shop:
  • this price for prescription glasses,
  • this other price for prescription sun glasses
  • this price for both - slightly cheaper than the sum of the two previous offers, of course!
Now, I´ll let you take a guess which one of them is likely to receive a visit from me once I get my hands on the extra cash at the end of this month.

It isn´t rocket science. Or is it?

So here are my (humble & fool-proof) 3 tops suggestions for a good offer, whether it's in-store or online:

  1. have one, for goodness' sake!
  2. be clear, be specific but keep it simple
  3. promote it visibly in your store

Can you think of any other tip to make your offer stand out?
(please, keep it clean!)

NYR - June results

Here come the June results...
  • NYR # 1 - Run
I did have all the intention in taking part on the "I Carrera Nocturna de Tías" but it was postponed indefinitely due to the passing away of a former mayor of the Town. It hasn't been rescheduled yet...
And I must admit that with all the walking I'm doing, not a lot in terms of length but in terms of frequency - daily and twice at the weekend- I find it hard to motivate myself to go running . Oh, well, at least I'm getting some form of exercise!
Result: failed.

  • NYR # 2 - Read
Lola's secret by Monica McInerney
Result: passed.

  • NYR # 3 - Eat
Nothing really springs to mind. No choice but to accept defeat.
Result: failed.

  • NYR # 4 - Walk
I can proudly say I walk (dogs) for a living, well, at least part-time. I'm helping out a friend who got two jobs unexpectedly by walking his dogs most evenings and up to twice at the weekends. I get some extra cash in pocket AND I exercise. Happy days.

Also, on the 23rd of June I proudly took part on the Lanzarote Wine Run 2013, the trekking modality, mind you.

And I also benefited from two "training" sessions, including a cheese & wine tasting at two of the local wineries:  El Grifo, on the 9th and Stratvs on the 16th. A good excuse to walk in La Geria region where the race/walk takes place and to start meeting people that will take part on it. It was limited to 25 people and being free I thought these free "quedadas" as they call them in Spanish would  be booked out, but no. Strange.

The day of the race itself was cloudy and thank God for that, it would have been roasting. Good company, breathtaking scenery, delicious food and drink and great atmosphere: a fantastic experience!

Here with the mad girls that I walked the walk:
- compliments of photofast -
And here with a trekking mate and the winners: Victor del Corral and Azucena Lara - great athletes and even better people:
Result: passed.

Mixed results this month but I am still happy with them overall.
